Mikaela Castledine uses coloured paper as a found object. In art this term refers to something used to make art that was actually intended for a different purpose. For her this means that the paper brings something of its own to the pictures, something she didn’t put there herself. As a result, the finished works have an element of surprise even for the artist. Many of Mikaela’s collages are inspired by her travels and exploration of her heritage.
